Cage-fighter jailed over £53m Kent Securitas raid

A cage fighter has been put in prison in Morocco for his part in the biggest cash raid on a Securitas UK depot.

Lee Murray, 30, from south London, was named during the trial of the other gang members as the "brains" of the £ 53m raid in Kent in February 2006.

Kent police said, Murray must serve 10 years in prison in Morocco for his involvement.

A spokesman for Murray said the force was deemed to be Moroccan and could not be extradited to the United Kingdom.
'Gunpoint'

Det Supt Mick Judge Kent said the operation had worked with the Moroccan authorities to ensure Murray was prosecuted.

He said: "I am delighted Murray will now begin serving a prison sentence for his part in the Tonbridge robbery."

More than 13 people were charged with criminal offenses in connection with the robbery. Six people were convicted.

Depot manager Colin Dixon and family were kidnapped at gunpoint by men posing as police officers to the gang to gain access.

Det Supt Judge added: "We should not be the traumatic experience of the Dixons and the Securitas employees were to forget that night in 2006 - held at gunpoint and fearing for their lives."

Murray said he played an important role in the conspiracy to abduct and Dixons to rob the depot.

Last June, the Moroccan authorities refused to extradite Murray, after establishing his Moroccan nationality.
